It's been an interesting day today...filled with surprises, delights and senses of being fulfilled.
On my way back from spinning, as I was driving home, I noticed the cars in front of me were stopping and making an attempt to turn around, then I saw what appeared to be a large black blanket? on the side of the road and I thought to myself that the car in front must have dropped it and were coming back to retrieve it. I also noticed that the cars on the incoming lanes were pulling over and stopping....I was so busy watching the cars and the commotions that I had not realized that what I had perceived to be a blanket all of a sudden moved and I realized that it was a gator just as it got on its legs and started to move toward my car....ooof, that was a close one. I too pulled over and watched him make his way across the street. (Why did the alligator crossed the street?? To get to the other side) LOL.... Ha....the little wonders of living in proximity to all the wildlife....makes you stop and seize the moment.
My other little wonder for the day was picking some prickly pear fruits. I remembered seeing something the other day in the local paper about these little gems and I decided to give it a try.....so I set out with a big bowl and tapped the little fruits in it, brought them to the kitchen sink and proceeded to feel them ever so slightly and it didn't seem to have any of the prickly sticks on them so I washed them all with my hands....silly me....of course i ended up with several translucent little sharp sticks in my fingers that only a magnifying glass could detect and tweezers to pull them out. Anyhoo....those little gems were peeled and seeded and for 3/4 of the fruit I got 1/4 of edible flesh....it was juicy, tart and bright red.....and so were my fingers LOL. But it was fun, it was tasty and it was a brand new experience and beside I love to eat the fruit from my land.
The other part of my day that was rewarding to me personally was when I exchanged several e-mails with other people within my fellowship.....it is always such a great cherished spiritual experience to connect with others that understand. I love every opportunity that is presented to me to work my program which helps me grow in ways that makes me wholesome....it just feels right.
What a great day this was.....physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Nothing changes if nothing changes
I was sharing my thoughts with another blogger this morning and later realized that it had not gone through.....duh....turns out yesterday I got a gmail address and it somehow got connected to the blog and that is why it wasn't going through....well, that's what I think happened anyway, I'm not always the brightest bulb when it comes to the ins and out of computers.
Anyhoo.....the point of my message, which was directed to Annette was in sharing that 'nothing changes if nothing changes'.
Back a few years ago I attended a f2f Families Anonymous meeting and there I met a lady who had struggled for a life time, it seemed, in dealing with her son's addictions. Turns out that every time something happened....whether it was losing a job, needing extra money, getting arrested or needing an attorney for proper defense....her sons would contact her with the news of the circumstances and the pleas of helping. Each and every time, she would step up and help out - "just this one last time" - and of course would repeat the same actions over and over again, somewhat making excuses that the emergencies were different - this time.
'Well, this went on for 30+ years and as I listened to this lady sharing her experiences with me and stating that she had no strength left and no hope to share.....I vowed to myself that I wouldn't put myself through this and I would not be doing my son such a dis-service. (I am not judging her for what she did- she did what she felt she needed to do - and as such am doing what I need to do for me) Such a pattern had been established now and her sons always looked to her for bailing out, never figuring out how to take care of their problems for themselves. This lady has passed on now and I often wonder what happened to her sons and whether or not they have sought recovery now that their major enabler is no longer in the picture.

The PLOMS
Ha! I bet you're wondering what the PLOMS mean.....well I saw this this morning in a daily reading that I get through my e-mail and I thought...how appropriate and what a great reminder....the PLOMS simply means..."pitty little old me". But I'm jumping ahead here, so let's start at the beginning.
As some of you know my son is incarcerated for the moment and his addiction to drugs and alcohol has been a big contributor to his lifestyle and where he ends up. And even though it is a source of relief in a way....to know where he is and that he gets 3 meals and a roof over his head while he sleeps....the facts remains that he is surrounded by criminals (I know not much different than when he's outside and using) and that some of those have committed crimes that would make my hair go straight (if that was possible).
Anyhoo...to make this story short.....the other day on the local news I heard of a case of TB that was discovered in the local county jail and that they are urging any one who has been in that jail between May & Sept needs to contact the health department and get tested.
And so it goes, my head started to analyze the situation and I started to wonder how he's going to get this taken care of and what if anything that I could do about it....me....ready to jump into action.....old habits are hard to break.
So, what I did do was go online and pull out the article from the internet and printed it out and mailed it to my son with a little note that he gets this checked out. I'm pretty sure that they are vigilant (the staff at the correctional institution) about these things as being in close contact with others....this sort of thing needs to be checked.
So, the moral of my story is that in the past I would have become totally obsessed over this and this would have been the drama of the week for me with my name becoming Ms.PLOM but thankgoodness for my program and for the time invested, I was able to turn it over and let it go.....knowing very well that HP also has a hand on things and that He's in charge.
Amen to that.

Living for today - as I am
| Do you find yourself auditioning life, or waiting for the right relationship, or the right job, or the perfect house, before deciding to live life to its fullest? The time to show up fully for life is right now....live in the moment, live for today and embrace the gifts that are offered because what we have now, today, is all that we need. |
